Bedtime Stories for 5 Year Olds
Barnaby was a very small triceratops with three little horns. His horns were special. They glowed like soft yellow nightlights when he felt happy. Tonight, Barnaby was looking for a cozy place to sleep. The Whispering Fern Forest was warm and quiet. The ground was covered in bouncy, green moss. It felt like a giant, soft mattress under his feet.
Barnaby took slow, happy steps through the giant leaves. The leaves tickled his tummy. He giggled a little quiet giggle. A sleepy butterfly fluttered past his nose. The butterfly was a gentle shade of sky blue. It landed on a big purple flower. The flower smelled like sweet, warm honey. Barnaby took a deep breath of the sweet air.
Soon, Barnaby saw his friend, Pip. Pip was a tiny pterodactyl with very soft, purple wings. Pip was yawning a giant yawn. He was nesting in a tree that grew warm, glowing lanterns. The lanterns were actually big, friendly fireflies. They buzzed a low, humming song. The happy sound made Barnaby feel very sleepy.
Are you ready for bed, Barnaby? Pip whispered. Pip tucked his head under his soft wing. Yes, Barnaby whispered back. My eyes are getting very heavy. Barnaby walked a little further. He wanted to find his mama. He knew she would know the perfect spot to dream.
A giant, kind face peeked down from high above the trees. It was Barnaby's mama. She was a big, gentle dinosaur with a very long neck. She hummed a sweet bedtime song. The sound rumbled softly in her chest. It felt like a warm, fuzzy hug. Mama leaned down and gave Barnaby a gentle nudge with her warm nose.
Mama pointed to a patch of soft pink clover. It looked like a big, fluffy pillow. Barnaby walked over and curled up in the middle of the clover. The ground was still warm from the golden daytime sun. He tucked his tail in close. He rested his chin on his soft paws.
Above them, the big stars began to blink. They looked like silver glitter in the dark blue sky. The moon was a giant, silver banana. Barnaby's three little horns grew very dim. They flickered one last time, then went dark.
The forest was peaceful and still. The night wind sang a soft lullaby through the tall trees. Barnaby closed his eyes. He let out a tiny dinosaur sigh. He was warm, safe, and ready for happy dreams.
